Pakistan to become the first country in South Asia to Introduce Battery Powered Electric Buses
Pakistan is to become the first country in South Asia to introduce battery powered electric buses as per the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry.
In his twitter message, Fawad Chaudhry said that science and technology budget has increased by up to 600% this year. The minister said that he will make efforts to hike the budget to 100% next year.
Chaudhry gave credit to Prime Minister Imran Khan for giving special attention to the science tech sector.
Furthermore, Chaudhry said that ministerial commissions will be set up with Russia and the government is now focused on the European Union (EU) and United States (US).
“It is our failure for not manufacturing engines, but we will make up solar panels and lithium batteries in the next three years. The energy system of the country will be completely changed.”
He also announced that the Jhelum biotech park will be the biggest herbal medicine park in South Asia and Pakistan will be the first country to manufacture battery-powered [electric] buses in the region.
The government also wants to launch electric buses in Pakistan to combat air pollution. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed with a private ride-hailing service to launch electric vehicles in Pakistan.
